The Complete Wooden Play Pen Care Guide

At The Muse Edition, we believe your baby’s play space should feel just as thoughtful and stylish as the rest of your home. Our wooden baby play pen is crafted from natural pine and designed to blend beautifully into your space, while giving your little one a safe, spacious, and engaging place to play, rest, and explore.
Here's how to care for it, so it continues to support your child’s everyday moments:
Assembly & Setup
Get Started Smoothly:
Assemble your play pen on a flat surface and ensure all parts are properly secured. It’s designed to fit perfectly over our padded foam play mat (200cm x 140cm) for a snug, slide-free setup. See full assembly instructions here.
Remember: corner connectors should be clicked in securely, and screws positioned in between the centre panels.
Child-Safe Access:
The built-in door allows effortless access for both parents and little ones. To open or close, simply pull back the spring-loaded latch and lift. Always ensure the door is securely latched, especially if your child is playing unsupervised.
Cleaning & Care
Simple to Clean:
Little ones come with little messes. Thankfully, the natural pine surface is easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh or oil-based cleaners, bleach, or alcohol as they can damage or dry out the wood.
Keep It Dry:
As the play pen is made from untreated pine, avoid leaving it damp for long periods. Dry thoroughly after cleaning to keep the wood in beautiful condition.
Regular Maintenance:
If your little one is teething or starting to stand, check the structure regularly for loose screws or wear and tear. A quick tighten here and there helps keep everything secure and safe.
The Natural Beauty of Pine: What to Expect
As your little one grows, so does the personality of your play pen. The natural pine will evolve in tone over time which is a unique feature of raw, untreated timber.
Here’s why that’s a good thing:
- Sunlight & Oxygen: Exposure to light and air will gently deepen the colour, giving it a golden, sun-kissed tone (even without direct sun).
- Humidity & Temperature: Being close to kitchens, heaters, or seasonal humidity may shift the tone slightly or bring natural tannins to the surface.
- Tannins & Reactions: Pine contains natural tannic acid. Contact with water or alkaline cleaners may occasionally leave light surface marks. These are usually cosmetic and can often be gently sanded if desired.
Safe Play, Always
Recommended Age:The play pen is suitable from 6 months and up — perfect for babies who are sitting confidently and ready to explore their surroundings.
Please note: once your child begins to climb, particularly using the abacus panel for leverage, the play pen should only be used under close supervision. If you're concerned about climbing, we recommend positioning the abacus panels to one side and placing that side against a wall to help minimise the risk.
Built-In Abacus = Built-In Fun:
The abacus detail on each side is great for sensory engagement and fine motor development. Just be sure it’s not used to climb or lean over the sides.
Stay Nearby:
Even though our play pens meet European Testing Standards (EN-71) for safety, active supervision is always key. Your little explorer should always be within sight.
Storage Tips
Pack It Away Neatly:
Not using it for a while? Disassemble and store the play pen in a cool, dry place. Avoid basements, garages, or areas with excess moisture.
Move It Gently:
To avoid damage to the wood or your floors, always lift the play pen when relocating. Don’t drag. your foam mat will thank you too.
Thank you so much for choosing The Muse Edition. We’re proud to play a small part in your everyday family life. With just a little care, your wooden play pen will remain just as beautiful, sturdy, and safe as the day it became part of your home.
